The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Eastern Iowa is accepting nominations of individuals, foundations and corporations who best represent the spirit of philanthropy in their communities. The recipients will be recognized at the National Philanthropy Day celebration luncheon on November 20 at the Cedar Rapids Country Club. A panel of previous honorees will select one recipient for each of the seven categories from among Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn and Washington counties, the area of focus for AFP Eastern Iowa. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Johnson County and Linn County, is once again offering the Nonprofit Management Academy. The one-day courses meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on selected Thursdays through November. The Nonprofit Network of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation has launched a new series of programs called Nonprofit Know-How. Independent Sector's estimate of the value of volunteer time for 2013 is $22.55 per hour. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, about 64.5 million Americans gave 7.9 billion hours of volunteer service worth $175 billion last year. According to the state-by-state breakdown, Iowa's value of volunteer time is $20.93. More.
